Week 1: Foundation & Birds
📍 Adelaide council park (location confirmed prior)

What They'll Learn:

  • Camera basics: power, focus, zoom, taking photos

  • How to hold camera steady

  • Rule of thirds composition

  • Photographing birds from safe observation distance

  • Patience and quiet observation

  • Respect for wildlife (no approaching or disturbing)

Week 2: Composition & Wildlife Behaviour
📍 Adelaide council park (location confirmed prior)

What They'll Learn:

  • Learning composition techniques and Perspectives

  • Framing with natural compositions (trees, branches)

  • Wildlife behavior observation (why birds and animals behave a certain way)

  • Using natural light effectively

  • Photography from designated viewing area only.

Week 3: Action & Movement

  • Framing action with fast shutter speed

  • Following moving subjects with camera

  • Shooting in Burst Mode

  • Predicting the movement patterns of birds and animals

  • Timing the perfect shot

Week 4: Portfolio and Celebration

  • Final Photography session using all learned skills

  • Learning how to select the best work (quality over quantity)

  • Learning what makes a photo great

  • Each child present their10 best photo taken over the course of 4 weeks

  • Parent viewing (final 20 minutes) - Celebrate together!!

⚠️ Important: What This Program IS and IS NOT

This is a photography education program focused on observation and camera skills in safe, supervised environments.

✓ WHAT WE DO:

  1. Observe wildlife from safe distances in council-managed parks

  2. Photograph animals in their natural environment

  3. Walk on established, flat paths with facilities nearby

  4. Learn wildlife behavior through patient observation

  5. Teach respect for wildlife and conservation ethicsStay in open, accessible areas within 15km of Adelaide CBD

 

✗ WHAT WE DON'T DO:

  1. NO wildlife handling, touching, or feeding animals

  2. NO adventure activities (climbing, abseiling, etc.)

  3. NO bush hiking or trail walking

  4. NO remote wilderness areas or national parks

  5. NO strenuous physical activities

 

All sessions take place in safe, accessible Adelaide council-managed parks with toilets, parking, and facilities. Perfect for all fitness levels.

PARENT FAQs:

Q: My child has never used a camera. Is this okay?

A: Perfect! Most students are complete beginners. We start from scratch.

 

Q: What if my child misses a week?

A: We'll catch them up! They can join the next course for that missed week, or we'll provide materials to practice at home.

 

Q: Can parents stay and watch?

A: Week 1: Brief stay for drop-off. Weeks 2-3: Drop-off only (helps kids focus). Week 4: Parents invited for final 30 minutes (graduation/photo viewing).

 

Q: What if it rains?

A: We'll reschedule that week or move to a sheltered location. Parents notified 24 hours in advance.

 

Q: Is lunch provided?

A: No, but there's a snack break. Kids bring water bottle and small snack.

 

Q: Will there be other kids their age?

A: Yes.

 

Q: Do you provide cameras?

A: Students bring their own. Smartphone cameras work great! Contact us if you need options.

 

Q: How do I know if my child will enjoy this?

A: If they like: animals, being outdoors, taking photos, or trying new things - they'll love it!

 

Q: What happens if my child doesn't listen or misbehaves?

A: We use positive reinforcement. If behavior issues arise, we'll contact you. Safety is non-negotiable.

 

Q: Can siblings of different ages join the same session?

A: Yes, as long as both are 8-16. They'll be in the same group.
