FAQs:
Q: What camera equipment do I need?
A: Any camera with manual controls works - DSLR, mirrorless, or even advanced point-and-shoot. You'll need a zoom lens ideally (70-200mm or 100-400mm recommended for wildlife). Contact us if you're unsure about your equipment - we can advise on what you have or help you choose suitable gear.
Q: I have never used Manual mode before. Is this course too advanced for me?
A: Not at all! This course is specifically designed to take you from Auto to Manual. We start with fundamentals and progress gradually. If you can currently take photos in Auto mode, you're ready for this workshop. The whole point is to teach you Manual - you don't need to know it already.
Q: What if I miss one of the four weeks?
A: We'll work with you! You can join the next cohort for that specific week, or we can provide supplementary materials and a brief one-on-one catch-up session. The skills build progressively, so we'll ensure you're not left behind.
Q: Will we be photographing in zoos or wildlife parks?
A: No - all sessions are in natural habitats. We photograph wild, free-ranging animals in Adelaide's beautiful parks and reserves. This teaches you real wildlife photography skills including patience, observation, and ethical approach techniques that translate to any wildlife setting.
Q: What is the physical fitness requirement?
A: Minimal. We walk on established paths and trails at a relaxed pace. Sessions involve standing, walking slowly, and occasional stopping to photograph. Anyone with moderate mobility can participate comfortably. If you have specific concerns, please contact us.
Q: Do you provide editing software training?
A: We provide basic editing guidance and principles in Week 4 to help you enhance your best shots. The focus is on capturing great images in-camera, but we'll cover fundamental adjustments (exposure, contrast, color) that make your photos shine. Detailed software training is beyond the scope of this field-focused workshop.
Q: What happens in bad weather?
A: Light rain? We photograph! Wildlife is often most active in overcast conditions. Heavy rain, extreme heat, or unsafe conditions? We'll reschedule that session. Participants are notified 24 hours in advance if weather requires changes. Learning to work with weather is part of wildlife photography.
Q: Can I bring a friend or partner who doesn't want to participate?
A: Non-participating companions are welcome but should stay separate from the group during instruction to avoid distraction. They can enjoy the park while you learn, and meet you during breaks. Wildlife photography requires quiet observation, so this arrangement works best for everyone.
